The Tiny Mapper is a Java/ PHP program that takes lecture notes in pdf form and analyses them for key words. The working prototype outputs links to Wikipedia pages relating to the keywords found in the PDF file. We define a key word by making sure it is not in a common word list and is regularly used throughout the PDF.
Potentially, this program could also search for key phrases as well as single words and find journals on sites like Science Direct or books in the university library database. Another extension would be a graphical user interface allowing lecturers to input links into their PDF file notes at the click of a button and make it easier for students to use. The master plan is for the program to be part of a dashboard type of system allowing students to access everything they need for university courses, possibly as a desktop widget.
